Born from a Parent’s Mission, Validated by Science

The Catalyst

Years ago, my youngest daughter walked through the front door, dropped her heavy school backpack, and complained of severe back discomfort. When I asked my older children if they felt the same way, the answer was a unanimous yes. I was adamant about protecting them and alleviating their discomfort. I went so far as to cut their homework book load in half just so they wouldn't have to carry that crushing weight home.

A Legacy of Protection

My determination wasn’t an accident; it came from a place of deep family heartbreak. I watched my sister Michelle suffer for years with severe scoliosis. A surgical procedure meant to help her only made her condition worse, leaving her in a full cast for six months and in constant physical pain for the rest of her life until she passed away. Watching someone I loved go through that left a permanent mark on my heart. I refused to let my children go down a path of musculoskeletal discomfort if I could help it.

The "Mad Scientist" and the Blueprint

Like a mad scientist driven by a protective instinct, I hit the drawing board. I realized the flaw wasn’t the bags themselves, it was entirely in the strapping. Why couldn't anyone else see that traditional vertical straps pull down on the delicate muscles of the neck and shoulders?

I began deep research into human bone structures and the geometry of the clavicle. I even purchased a clavicle brace, testing how they distributed tension across my children’s shoulders. Eventually, I shelved the project. Years prior, a different invention of mine had been taken from me and marketed by someone else, and I vowed never to let that happen to this design.

The Full Circle

Years later, out of the blue, my daughter looked at me and said, "You need to finish working on that backpack."

The beautiful irony? Two of those very children who inspired the design grew up to become Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPTs), and my daughter who suggested i get back to working on the backpack, left her career in education to pursue nursing. Today,  PostuSack™ is a true family collaboration. We combined my original blueprint with their clinical, structural expertise in human biomechanics. Together, we have finalized a patent-pending, wrap-around strap system designed to let the world carry more, and slouch less.
